Kodak EasyShare V1003

Guide price: £199.00

Compact 10 megapixel digital camera, available in many metallic, satin finishes.
This camera is exactly the same size and shape as it's sibling the V803, the only difference being, the 10.0 megapixel moniker on the lens barrel, 9 colours(the V803 is available in only 8) and the larger sensor chip.
A hard press on the on/off button (it lights up green when pressed) fires up a nice high resolution 'Kodak' splash screen, the 3x zoom is also quick to protrude from the casing and the camera is ready for action. This, I might add is only the case if a fast sd card is present(a pro card from Kodak or a sd card with a speed rating of 120x as a standard memory card slows this process considerably.) Focus is fast and the TFT screen is crisp, clear and colour accurate. Exposure is almost always spot-on and the photos captured are highly detailed, as you would expect from such a high megapixel chip and noise free at low ISO settings (80-200) The camera has plenty of 'Scene' settings for every eventuality, these include backlit scene, which is very useful on sunny days, museum where the flash is suppressed and a special optimised child setting for photographing children! (There are 24 settings in all.) These settings are all quickly available with a press of a dedicated button, but I found the Auto setting was more than capable of ensuring great photos, and if parts of a captured photo were a bit dark 'Kodak's Perfect Touch Technology' setting easily rectifies this, with the option of writing over the original or saving the unchanged file and the new one. (You view these alterations on screen and choose whether to have the alterations applied or not.)
There are plenty of different settings available for the expert photographer, such as ISO changing, with a range from 80- ISO 1600! Colour modes, white balance, metering modes, EV compensation and photo resolution, so plenty of user input into the photo taking, should you want to, but ultimately easy to use and a great 'point and shoot' camera.

Great Features with the Kodak V1003
Very attracive,colourful, pocketable camera
High pixel count for large printed photos
High quality Kodak Retinar Lens
Superb, accurate colour reproduction
Kodak's Perfect Touch Technology built-in for on camera editing
Large, high quality TFT screen
Easy to use
Great movie mode with sound

Hilary's Conclusion: Attractive, well made digital camera with a massive megapixel count. It is capable of producing beautiful, highly detailed photographs which have the added benefit of being able to be printed out at very large sizes.
My only negatives are its slow start-up and photo capture (with a slow sd card) the sometimes visible over zealous jpeg compression, (in an effort to keep the file sizes down) and still no optical ''anti-shake' only 'blur reduction'
