Lexmark P350
Guide price: £60.00
Compact, portable 4x6" photo printer. Attractive, truly portable (it has an intergrated carrying handle) 4x6" photo-printer,with memory card slots and a nice large 2.4" LCD monitor screen. Setting up to print is easy and quick and to start PC free printing, simple instructions are shown on the LCD. The ink cartridge and paper need to be installed, a memory card inserted (or USB cable for PictBridge printing) the image is selected and then 80 seconds later a slightly damp print emerges! Prints need to be handled very carefully when they are ejected, which is very different from the competition, such as Epson, Canon and HP as their prints are immediately dry. This means that the ink has to be able to completely soak into the papers substrate, before the prints can be safely handled, otherwise smudges and fingerprints will ruin the photo. Apart from this rather undesirable feature, this printer produces nicely saturated prints with reasonable detail even in the shadow areas, which is impressive for such an inexpensive printer.
Hilary's Conclusion: Lexmark have dipped their toe (in the past) into this very competitive 4x6" photo print market and been unsuccessful. They have now tried again with this stylish model and come up trumps! At this price, for the specification and the very reasonable output, this is a good buy. However if you are looking for the ultimate 4x6" prints look at a dye-sub.
