A New Format with New Possibilities-LG Unveils the New GBW H10N Blu-ray Drive
05/09/06
LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, launches the highly anticipated Blu-ray drive to the UK optical storage market in September 2006. The Blu-ray format provides up to 5 times the storage capacity of previous formats and offers increased levels of picture resolution.
The launch of Blu-ray technology marks a change in the way businesses and home users will be able to store and use data by offering increased storage capacity for data rich content, plus it enables the playback of high definition video and sound.
Blu-ray devices use a blue laser, rather than the red laser used in CD and DVD drives, to write and read Blu-ray discs. The discs hold more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs holding up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. The GBW H10N also boasts the fastest Blu-ray write speed of 4X, as well as writing to existing DVD formats at speeds of up to 12x.
Blu-ray technology has been backed as the disc format of the future and as such will have a huge impact on businesses by providing massive storage capacity. This will particularly benefit businesses working with high definition film and images, allowing them to store vast photo libraries on a single disc and enabling them to playback high definition video feed in its native resolution.
The new format has been supported by a number of the leading movie studios and media houses. This support of the Blu-ray format will benefit home users through playing and storing high definition movies with detailed in depth extra features such as director’s commentary and interactive film related games. With a standard single layer Blu-ray disc (BD) holding up to 25GB of high quality game content, Blu-ray will help revolutionise home gaming by allowing higher quality graphics and sound giving a more gripping gaming experience.
LG’s Super Multi Blue technology means this drive not only caters for the new BD (Blu-ray Disc) format, but is also fully backwards compatible enabling it to read and write all three current DVD formats (DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM). This unique LG technology allows all vital data to be backed up and protected with ease and efficiency benefiting both home and business users by providing worry-free, flexible data storage.
LG’s GBW H10N is equipped with a 4MB buffer memory for BD and 2MB for CD format with run prevention technology, which prevents errors and confirms the GBW-H10N as the ultimate desktop storage solution.
Suan Choi, Product Manager for LG Electronics, states: “Blu-ray technology is an important innovation in the optical storage market and we are delighted to be among the first to launch a Blu-ray drive with such a high BD write speed. Blu-ray provides a glimpse into the future of data storage technology by offering extremely high capacity coupled with LG’s Super Multi Blue technology.”
The GBW H10N will retail at around £499 and is available UK e-tailers and high street retailers.
