Jessops focuses on top-of-range digital cameras as orders zoom up by 51.9%
JESSOPS, the photographic dealer, today said it would continue to focus its efforts on the growth areas of digital printing and upmarket digital SLRs after posting stronger half-year figures.
The photo chain, which operates around 290 stores including three in the Capital, said total like-for-like sales grew 2.3 per cent in the 26 weeks to April 2, with internet and mail order business surging 51.9 per cent.
Jessops said its overall share of the digital camera market increased to 19.7 per cent in March 2006 from 18.9 per cent a year earlier.
New chief executive Chris Langley said: "Despite the tough retail environment, we have continued to leverage Jessops' leadership position in the digital photography market, building on the actions taken last year.
"Looking forward, with consumer confidence still fragile, the retail climate remains hard to predict and in line with previous years, the second half accounts for the bulk of the group's profits. The actions we have taken . . . will enable us to benefit from Jessops' strong competitive position."
